2/28/2024 – People’s Natural Gas (PNG) will be installing a new gas main and service line beginning on Monday, March 4, 2024. They will begin near 1st Street on S Main and work their way toward Main Street before turning east on Main. The work on S Main is expected to take 4-6 weeks. Traffic will still be able to drive through as only one lane is scheduled for closure. The Borough does not yet have a good timeline for Main Street but this post will be updated once we know more, which will be toward the end of the work on S Main.
During the first week on S Main, progress will be slow as PNG does exploratory potholing to ensure that the pipe can be installed in a straight line once they start trenching. They are expecting to be working on the river side of S Main. It is likely that two excavators/backhoes will be staged on the street and that four parking spots will be used for the equipment. PennDOT gave PNG work times of 7am to 5pm.
Waste Management has been notified that the work will begin and they will make an effort to collect trash and recycling prior to when PNG begins work so if you live in that part of town, it is recommended that you have your trash out the night before or very early on Tuesdays. If your trash is missed, please call the Borough at 412-781-0546 and speak with someone from the administration office (option 1) to notify us. Per usual, you need to notify us by Wednesday so that we can get WM to send a recovery truck, which they do by Thursday.
There have been four reports this week of recycling cans being stolen. Please secure your recycling cans. If your can is stolen, please contact WM directly. Call 1-800-866-4460. To get to a human, say, “I need a service change” when the automated service prompts you.
We are hiring for a full-time, benefited position, split evenly between the Boroughs of Etna and Sharpsburg. In Etna, the person will perform both code enforcement and rental inspections. In Sharpsburg, the person will perform rental inspections. Read the description here.
The District Association (DA) is a community organization founded in 1928 for residents of Fox Chapel, O’Hara, Aspinwall, Blawnox, Sharpsburg, Indiana, and Harmar boroughs and townships. They initiate and implement various community projects that are not tax-supported but enhance and beautify the community.
To continue with these noble efforts, they rely on the support of residents. A family membership costs $35 per year. The funds raised through memberships, and the Fox Chapel Follies enable them to play an active role in member communities. Please visit theda.org to join or learn more about the District Association and its many projects. The DA expresses gratitude to those who already support this organization. They aspire to expand their membership to include all their friends and neighbors to continue their good work. The DA’s biggest fundraiser, the Fox Chapel Follies, will be held again in 2024! As a member of the District Association, you will be given top priority to purchase tickets. Now is the perfect time to join!
